A week ago my friend H and I were out in San Francisco to run the Nike Women’s Marathon – this was my first time ever in California and my first marathon ever too! Whoo! We arrived the Friday evening before race day and settled into our accommodations at the Marriott Courtyard in Fisherman’s Wharf – a great place to stay as a first time tourist in the city. For our lunch on Saturday, we strolled over to Boudin’s at the Wharf and had a classic lunch of clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and turkey avocado sandwich. Even though Boudin’s is definitely a tourist hotspot, I found that the ingredients were fresh and the chowder was as good (or even better) then any bowl of chowder you’ll find in Boston.

A fun thing to see at Boudin’s is all of the different shaped breads that they create and decorate the shop with – there were even sourdough alligators and lobsters lying around! Here’s a snapshot of a cute little sourdough sea turtle:
