On Monday we stopped by Leonard’s bakery first thing in the morning for some hot fresh malasadas and coffee – our day was already off to a fantastic start! A malasada is a Portuguese yeast donut that was introduced to Hawaii in the late 1800s by Portuguese laborers that came to the islands to work on the plantations. Being in Hawaii, we decided to the the special malasadas with haupia and mango filling:
Haupia filling … yummmm
Leonard’s makes fresh malasadas all day – but I have to say, there is nothing like a malasada and a hot coffee to start your day off right!
